Virtual try-on for fashion e‑commerce

Virtual Try-On API

Put clothes from a product photo on a real person you choose with Photoroom: your own model, a brand ambassador or a shopper. Send both photos and get back that person wearing the garment.

Virtual try-on results for fashion and resale

One garment photo, worn by a real person. Fashion brands dress their own models, and resale platforms show a seller's item on a person.

Edit With AI

Describe any change in plain language and our AI makes it - swap colors, remove or add objects, restage the scene, or shift the camera angle.

Resize any image to any format without cropping. Our AI generates the extra background to match the original, filling every empty pixel seamlessly.

Uncrop

Recover subjects clipped by the frame. Our AI reconstructs the missing parts from the visible portion, automatically.

Ironing

Make every garment look freshly pressed. Our AI smooths creases and wrinkles out of clothing photos automatically - no steamer, no reshoot.

Create Any Image

Generate images from a text description alone - no source photo needed. Describe the scene, pick a format, and get original content back.

Uncertainty Score

Know when a cutout needs a second look. Every response returns a confidence score from 0 to 1, so you can auto-flag ambiguous images for review at scale.

Perspective Correction

Straighten angled shots of flat, rectangular products - cards, books, games - into clean, straight-on views. No generative AI, so hallucinations are impossible by design.

Positioning

Control exactly where the subject sits in the result - scaling, alignment, padding, and margins - so every image in a catalog comes out consistently framed.

Smart Cropping

Reframe images around the subject automatically - prompt it to focus on a specific element, or crop faces out for marketplace compliance.

Upscale

Turn small, low-res images into sharp ones at 4× the size - with a fast mode for volume and a slow mode for maximum quality.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Virtual Try-On API?

Photoroom's Virtual Try-On API automatically places a piece of clothing on a person. You send the garment photo and the person's photo, set virtualModel.mode to ai.auto, and pass the person's photo with virtualModel.model.custom.imageUrl or virtualModel.model.custom.imageFile.

How is Virtual Try-On different from the Virtual Model API?

The Virtual Model API turns one or more clothing photos into a polished lifestyle photoshoot image, with a preset model or your own. Virtual Try-On places a garment on the person in the photo you send. See Virtual Model API.

Want to try clothes on a photo of yourself instead? Use the Virtual Try-On tool.

How much does the Virtual Try-On API cost?

Virtual Try-On is included in the Plus API plan and Enterprise plans, not in the Basic API plan. The Plus API plan costs $100 a month ($0.10 an image). Enterprise plans have custom pricing on an annual contract: talk to sales. Details are on the pricing page.

How do I call the Virtual Try-On API?

Get your API key, then send the garment photo and the person's photo. This example puts the garment on the person, standing, in a studio scene:

curl --request POST \
  --url https://image-api.photoroom.com/v2/edit \
  --header 'x-api-key: YOUR_API_KEY' \
  --form imageFile=@/path/to/garment.jpg \
  --form virtualModel.model.custom.imageFile=@/path/to/person.jpg \
  --form removeBackground=false \
  --form referenceBox=originalImage \
  --form virtualModel.mode=ai.auto \
  --form virtualModel.scene.preset.name=studio \
  --form virtualModel.pose=standing \
  --output result.png

Every parameter, including the preset scenes and poses, is in the Virtual Try-On docs.

Can I choose the scene and the pose?

Yes. virtualModel.scene sets the environment the person is placed in, from a preset scene or your own scene image, and virtualModel.pose sets the person's pose.

Can I send more than one photo of the garment?

Yes. Send photos of other angles or details with virtualModel.additionalProductImages[]. They help the model understand the product and generate more accurate results.

Can I tell the API how the garment should fit?

Yes. Pass garment fit info, such as measurements or the size label, in the prompt parameter, virtualModel.prompt.

Which output shapes and file formats does Virtual Try-On support?

virtualModel.size sets the shape: portrait (the default), square or landscape. Send PNG, JPEG, WEBP or AVIF files up to 30 MB and up to 5,000 px on the widest side.

How do I run Virtual Try-On across a whole catalog?

Run calls in parallel, one image per call, up to 60 images a minute by default. For higher limits on high-volume catalogs, talk to sales.

Can I use Photoroom from Claude?

Yes. Photoroom has an MCP server for AI assistants such as Claude: see Photoroom MCP for the tools it covers. To add Virtual Try-On to your own product, call the Photoroom API.

What should I do if I need help with the API?

Having trouble with the API? Join our API community to get help from our engineers, or check the troubleshooting page for common issues.

For anything billing-related or with sensitive information, please DM Photoroom directly in the community. We're always happy to help.
