AI lifestyle scenes for product catalogs

Product Staging API

Photoroom turns one plain product photo into a realistic lifestyle shot, held, worn or set on a table, so every SKU in your catalog gets one, no studio booking needed.

Product Staging

Place your product into realistic lifestyle scenes - held, worn, or displayed - with the natural lighting and composition of a high-end photoshoot.

Edit With AI

Describe any change in plain language and our AI makes it - swap colors, remove or add objects, restage the scene, or shift the camera angle.

Product Beautifier

Enhance low-quality product and food images automatically with the Beautifier API. No retouchers, no studios. Our AI restores detail, corrects color, and improves overall quality at scale.

Add Shadows

Add realistic shadows to the main subject of your image, with complete control over the softness, intensity and position of the shadow.

Generate Backgrounds

Dynamically create new backgrounds with our first-class generative AI, perfectly matching the subject of the original picture.

Relighting

Fix badly lit photos automatically. Our AI rebalances over- and under-exposed images, with modes that keep product colors accurate or optimize for portraits.

Text Removal

Remove watermarks, labels, and real-world signage from your images automatically - choose what goes and what stays.

Expand

Resize any image to any format without cropping. Our AI generates the extra background to match the original, filling every empty pixel seamlessly.

Uncrop

Recover subjects clipped by the frame. Our AI reconstructs the missing parts from the visible portion, automatically.

Ironing

Make every garment look freshly pressed. Our AI smooths creases and wrinkles out of clothing photos automatically - no steamer, no reshoot.

Create Any Image

Generate images from a text description alone - no source photo needed. Describe the scene, pick a format, and get original content back.

Uncertainty Score

Know when a cutout needs a second look. Every response returns a confidence score from 0 to 1, so you can auto-flag ambiguous images for review at scale.

Perspective Correction

Straighten angled shots of flat, rectangular products - cards, books, games - into clean, straight-on views. No generative AI, so hallucinations are impossible by design.

Positioning

Control exactly where the subject sits in the result - scaling, alignment, padding, and margins - so every image in a catalog comes out consistently framed.

Smart Cropping

Reframe images around the subject automatically - prompt it to focus on a specific element, or crop faces out for marketplace compliance.

Upscale

Turn small, low-res images into sharp ones at 4× the size - with a fast mode for volume and a slow mode for maximum quality.

Lifestyle shots for every SKU, not just the bestsellers

Photoshoots only cover the products you can afford to shoot. Start from the product photo you already have, and Photoroom places it in a realistic scene for the rest of the catalog too.

Three stoneware vases in rust, sage and sand, each staged on the same chest of drawers with one reference and one seed

One look across a whole range

Stage a full range against the same reference scene and prompt, and each product lands in the same place in the same light, so the category page reads as one collection instead of a mix of shoots.

Scenes that match your brand

Add reference images of a room, a shelf or a table, and the model blends them with your product photo, so staged images look like the settings your brand already uses.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Product Staging API?

Photoroom's Product Staging API places an item into a realistic lifestyle scene, like being held, worn or placed on a table. It runs on Edit With AI: set editWithAI.mode to ai.auto and pass the Product Staging prompt from the docs.

How is Product Staging different from background generation and composition?

Background generation puts a cut-out product on a new AI background: see Generate Background API. Composition combines several products in one image: see Composition API. Product Staging keeps your product photo and stages it in a lifestyle scene.

How much does the Product Staging API cost?

Product Staging is included in the Plus API plan, at $100 a month ($0.10 an image), and in Enterprise plans with custom pricing: talk to sales. Each call returns one image. Details are on the pricing page.

How do I call the Product Staging API?

Get your API key, then send your photo with editWithAI.mode set to ai.auto and the Product Staging prompt. This example is the one from the docs:

curl --request POST \
  --url https://image-api.photoroom.com/v2/edit \
  --header 'x-api-key: YOUR_API_KEY_HERE' \
  --form imageFile=@/path/to/image.png \
  --form removeBackground=false \
  --form editWithAI.mode=ai.auto \
--form editWithAI.prompt='Make it a professional lifestyle photoshoot with the provided object or subject as the focus of the scene. Ensure the image highlights what is unique about the object, with the goal of advertising it and showing how it impacts everyday life. The lighting should be perfectly set to create a natural and elegant atmosphere. The image should feature excellent composition and a refined mood, achieving the look of high-end lifestyle photography. Integrate a human presence or a subtle interaction with the object to enhance authenticity and visual appeal.' \
  --form editWithAI.seed=2016886668 \
  --output result-product-staging.png

Set editWithAI.seed to any positive integer to get similar-looking results when you reprocess the same photo. Every parameter is in the Edit With AI docs.

Can I use my own scene as a reference?

Yes. Add up to four reference images with editWithAI.additionalImages, as files or URLs, for five images per request in total. The docs show how to place a product from the main image into the scene of a reference image.

Which file formats and sizes are supported?

Send PNG, JPEG, WEBP or AVIF files up to 30 MB and up to 5,000 px on the widest side. Staged images come back at 1K (1024 x 1024); for 2K or 4K output, talk to sales.

How do I stage a whole catalog with the Photoroom API?

Run calls in parallel, one image per call, up to 60 images a minute by default. For higher limits on high-volume catalogs, talk to sales.

What should I check when choosing a product staging API?

Check that results stay similar when you reprocess the same photo, that you can steer the scene with your own references, and that one integration covers your other edits too. With Photoroom, that's editWithAI.seed, up to four reference images and 20+ edits from one API.

Can I use Photoroom from Claude?

Yes. Photoroom has an MCP server for AI assistants such as Claude, and it covers Product Staging: see Photoroom MCP for more information.
