Why not express "cuteness" more freely with Photoroom, just like TRIP UTOPIA?

How TRIP UTOPIA conveys the “cuteness” of embroidered ribbons

TRIP UTOPIA is an online shop that sells embroidered ribbons directly imported from India. Making customers feel that the product is “cute” the moment they see it was a crucial factor leading to a purchase.

However, before introducing Photoroom, there were challenges in the shooting environment. They used a simple shooting booth at home with white paper, adjusting brightness with sunlight or lights. While trying to add ambiance with small accessories, they faced issues such as:

  • High cost of collecting accessories

  • Difficulty in arranging accessories beautifully

  • The background always being the same, leading to a one-pattern look

While a white background highlights the product, it gets buried on social media. With white backgrounds alone, it was difficult to convey the atmosphere of the ribbons, sometimes creating a gap between customers’ expectations before purchase and the actual product. Ms. Miyata was struggling with how to convey the world view of the embroidered ribbons.

"Because our products are vibrant and impactful, I wanted to convey the 'cuteness' including the entire world view."

Discovering Photoroom through other e-commerce owners

The turning point came when Ms. Miyata saw other e-commerce owners using Photoroom on X (formerly Twitter). After trying it herself, she was surprised by how natural the AI-generated backgrounds looked.

Feeling that “this is actually usable,” she immediately upgraded to the PRO plan.

"Photoroom proposes a 'completed image' of the subject and the background. The major difference from other tools is that you can select while imagining the final result."

A simple workflow to create a consistent brand world

Ms. Miyata’s favorite background categories are “Comfortable Home” and “Countertop.”

Her workflow is simple:

  1. Shoot the product against a white background

  2. Adjust brightness and color in Lightroom

  3. Use Photoroom to cut out the subject

  4. Generate an AI background that matches the ribbon’s atmosphere

Sometimes she adds prompts like “with green” to naturally incorporate plants into the scene.

Final text overlays are added in Canva, and the images are then posted on blogs and social media.

This streamlined workflow has unified the tone of TRIP UTOPIA’s product images and ensured consistency across the brand’s visual world.

The circle of “kawaii” spreading through social media

Since introducing Photoroom, TRIP UTOPIA’s Instagram followers have grown from around 8,000 to 15,000 in about six months. Posts introducing how to use the ribbons reach many users, and the account has grown into a community for handmade enthusiasts.

“When I tell people the background is AI, they often say, ‘I didn’t notice.’ That’s how natural the finish is.”

Creating seasonal visuals without additional cost

Photoroom’s AI backgrounds also make it easy to create visuals for seasonal campaigns.

There is no longer a need to purchase new props for events like Christmas or Valentine’s Day — the world view can be expressed simply by changing the background.

“Even if I wanted to create seasonal photos, those events only happen once a year. Preparing props just for that was expensive and difficult. With Photoroom, I can create many seasonal images with a single click, without preparing anything from scratch.”

As a result, TRIP UTOPIA has effectively reduced the cost of shooting accessories to zero and increased social media posts. The reduced burden of image editing allows more time to be dedicated to product development and communication.

Why Photoroom?

Ms. Miyata has also tried Canva’s AI background feature. However, she felt that Canva only suggested backgrounds, making it hard to imagine the finished image with the subject placed inside it.

“Photoroom shows the ‘subject + background’ as a completed image from the start, which makes it easy to choose and prevents mistakes.”

In addition, Photoroom’s backgrounds are natural and not overly flashy, allowing the product’s original colors to remain accurate.

Lifestyle-inspired scenes like “Comfortable Home” and “Countertop” were especially effective for conveying how the embroidered ribbons would look in real-life use.

Balancing “accuracy” and “ambiance” in product photos

Ms. Miyata carefully differentiates between accuracy and atmosphere depending on where the image will be used.

“A white background is enough for a pure product photo. But on social media and blogs, I want to convey the ribbon’s ‘cuteness’ and ‘warmth.’ That’s why I change the background for each embroidery, so viewers can imagine it fitting into their own room or style.”

Photoroom’s AI backgrounds have become indispensable for creating these ambiance-driven images.

White backgrounds handle accuracy, while AI backgrounds express the world view — for Ms. Miyata, Photoroom is the tool that enables both.

Protecting and maintaining a consistent brand world

Ms. Miyata uses Photoroom not just as an editing tool, but as a partner in nurturing the brand’s visuals.

“AI backgrounds are really fun. But if I use too many categories, the world view becomes inconsistent. So I limit myself to just two categories to maintain brand unity.”

All photos are also shot consistently against a white background, with stable white balance from the start.

This ensures that the ribbon’s texture and color remain accurate, even when the background is changed by AI.

Future outlook

Looking ahead, TRIP UTOPIA plans to further expand its embroidered ribbon kits designed for beginners.

Rather than focusing on rapid expansion, the brand aims to become one that is loved over the long term, carefully communicating the appeal of handmade crafts.

“I don’t think I could have created seasonal visuals this easily without Photoroom.”

For Ms. Miyata, Photoroom is both a time-saving tool and a partner that expands creative expression.

Together, they will continue delivering the brilliance and “cuteness” of embroidered ribbons to more people.
